Locals
Locals
There's no place like home. And true to Dorothy's immortal line from the movie, there's no place like the town or city you grew up in. Nothing like the diner on Main Street, or the old-fashioned candy store you used to go to for licorice as a kid, or the library you went to for romance novels and crime mysteries. And of course, there's nothing like the locals of your place. Eccentric, friendly, warm, gossipy, charming, reserved, wealthy or not, the people of your neighborhood are what make up the local scene you call home.
“Locals” is the term commonly used to refer to the people who make up a certain community. “Locals” are the people who have lived, even been born, in a town or city, molding everything else “local:” culture, music, food, art, news and lifestyle. As well as referring to a certain town or neighborhood, the term local also applies to government, as in “local taxes” or “local social security office.”
Locals, or the local people, are the life of any particular place. They are what create a town or a city, giving it its own personal, unique atmosphere and flavor that any other person stopping by for a visit will appreciate.
